Dr Paul Conneely Series
The most ambitious project ever undertaken by PORTAL Education. A biomechanics series so different, so clinically advanced, so left of center you just have to take part. Each “part” will include access to all lecture content but also access to a LIVE classroom discussion with Dr Paul Conneely himself. This type of education is ground breaking!

* Increase your current clinical knowledge of lower limb anatomy.
* Improve your diagnostic imaging skills via review of radio-logic concepts and techniques.
* Improve your clinical practice by case series discuss/presentation on lower limb mechanical issues with a radiology perspective.
* Improve your knowledge behind choosing views or imaging modalities for certain pathomechanical conditions of the lower extremity.
✲ Introduction to Radiology – Mr Alex Petsoglou (Specialist MRI Radiographer). This lecture explores the basic concepts of radiology: from X-Ray and its humble beginnings to how MRI works. It is a comprehensive start to the series which encompasses X-ray, ultrasound, CT-scan, and MRI. Duration 47minutes
✲ What you see is what you get – Mr Alex Petsoglou (Specialist MRI Radiographer). This lecture expands on the introduction to radiology lecture. It exlpores the DO’s and DONT’s of radiology prescription, typical views and when they are appropriate to order. This lecture is complimented by the practical session: X-RAY POSITIONING 101 which can be found below. Duration: 28minutes.
✲ Diagnosing using x-ray, diagnostic ultrasound, ct-scan & MRI – Mr Alex Petsoglou (Specialist MRI Radiographer). This lecture explores the pathology of pelvis down using modalities of x-ray, ct-scan, diagnostic ultrasound and MRI. Looking at diagnosis principals, bone, joints, soft tissue. Conditions include: Plantar fasciitis, hamstring tears, bone tumours, neuroma, uterine fibroids, ligament tears, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, abcess, infection, fractures, complex regional pain syndrome and calf tears. Duration 45minutes.
✲ The “normal” knee – Dr Paul Conneely (Musculoskeletal Practitioner). This brief lecture discusses the radiological structure and appearance of the normal knee with some minor pathology. Duration: 5minutes.
✲ Pelvic & Hip Radiology – Dr Paul Conneely (Musculoskeletal Practitioner). This lecture discusses the major radiological structures and identifying features of the pelvis and hip. Particular attention is given to their function and some common pathological issues which practitioners might observe clinically. Duration: 27minutes.
✲ Leg & Ankle Radiology – Dr Paul Conneely (Musculoskeletal Practitioner). This lecture examines concepts behind normal and abnormal radiology of the tibia, fibula and ankle joint complex. Includes discussion on fractures such as: Tilleux-Chaput, Weber classifications and subsets, tri-malleolar, maisonneuve, leforte-wagstaff, Volkmanns triangle, salter harris, triplanar, pilon. Duration: 31minutes.
✲ The Flattest Foot – Dr Paul Conneely (Musculoskeletal Practitioner). This lecture discusses radiology and pathology relating to flat feet, bunions, cystic lesions, bony cystic lesions, synovitis, traumatic synovitis, calcific blood vessels, diabetes, “expensive feet”, sesamoid fractures, toe subluxations, cuboid “sesamoid” or accessory bone, stress fractures, heel spurs, bony spurs, midfoot arthritis, lis franc fractures/dislocations, medial cuneiform synovitis and bone scan. Duration: 26minutes.
✲ Ultrasound of the sciatic nerve – Dr Paul Conneely (Musculoskeletal Practitioner). This short lecture and case discussion focuses on the symptomatic patient with unilateral parasthesia. Shows the normal ultrasound appearance and inspection of the sciatic nerve. Duration: 6minutes.
✲ Canal Spinal Stenosis - Dr Paul Conneely (Musculoskeletal Practitioner). This brief lecture and case discussion focuses on imaging and history of canal spinal stenosis using CT-scan. Duration: 10minutes.
✲ Avascular necrosis, cysts, reactive arthritis & tumours of the lower limb - Dr Paul Conneely (Musculoskeletal Practitioner). This long lecture and case discussion series focuses on discussion of the radiology behind avascular necrosis and staging, blood supply to the femoral neck, x-ray, bone scan and MRI of the crescent sign in avascular necrosis, simple cysts of the lower limb imaging with x-ray, bone scan and MRI, septic arthritis calcification in joints, pagets disease of bone, chondroblastoma, osteosarcoma, codmans triangle, reiters syndrome, plantar fasciitis, posiasis, giant cell tumours, haemophilia. Duration: 37minutes.
✲ Massive Disc Bulge – Dr Paul Conneely (Musculoskeletal Practitioner). This extremely brief lecture poses a short discussion surrounding a substantial clinical lumbar disc bulge. Duration: 3minutes.
✲ Knee Pain - Dr Paul Conneely (Musculoskeletal Practitioner). Radiological case studies discussing Patellofemoral OA, chronic patella dislocation, post patella dislocation, osteochondritis dessicans, jumpers knee, patella avulsion fracture with patella tendon tear, acute patella tendon tear, partial tear of quadriceps tendon, VMO partial tear, pre-patella bursitis OA and bakers cyst, ilitibial band friction syndrome, fat pad impingement, oschgood schlatters, bipartite patella. Duration: 21minutes.
✲ MRI case series discussion of the foot & ankle – Dr Paul Conneely (Musculoskeletal Practitioner). A discussion regarding MRI normal appearance of foot and ankle, ankle ligament abnormalities, sinus tarsi syndrome, Achilles tendon disorders, ankle tendon dislocation, osteochondral lesions, avascular necrosis, mortons neuroma, gout, rheumatoid arthritis.
